Michael B. Jordan, revealed his career aspirations to blur racial lines in movie roles during an interview with GQ magazine.
“I want to be part of that movement that blurs the line between white and black,” the Jordan proudly proclaimed.
Many know the 28 year old actor from his captivating portrayal as the highly publicized , Oakland Police homocide victim Oscar Grant in the 2013 Film "Fruitvale Station". However, the role that inroduced most of us to Jordan was his portrayal as the tragic youth, "Wallace", on HBO's critically acclaimed series "The Wire". Ironically, both roles that ushered him to stardom have clearly drawn the lines between black and white in their honest narratives about racial oppression Blacks face in America.
Critics have taken note of Jordan's role selections and predict that he's on his way to being the next Will Smith. His performances in films such as "Fantastic Four", "Chronicle" and "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" shows that he's well on his way to achieving racially ambiguous roles.
Jordan stars as the son of Apollo Creed in "Creed", a spinoff from the "Rocky" franchise produced by Sylvester Stallone. The film release date is November 25, 2015.
My 2 cents:
As a proponent of creating our own stories, I'm not sure if blurring color lines in the entertainment industry is as effective as dismantling stereotypes by portraying our truths on our terms in cinema. What do you think of Michael B. Jordan's pursuit of traditionally White roles, Arts Lovers?
